the 2 day workshop aims to inspire and encourage the establishment of a rewarding versatile sketchbook practice, a private reflective space to investigate ideas that makes an invaluable studio resource
below are images of a sample book - through gathering and observing your compiled resources to create small exploratory tactile studies on paper and cloth, developing ideas through experimental drawing, stitch and colour to create a visual notebook
with guidance you will learn to sequence your ideas and undertake experimental drawing and mark making exercises using a range of techniques and materials including thread and hand stitch; through painting colour studies you will achieve subtle variations in hue, tone, shade developing a personal palette. You will be encouraged to include found objects, earth, grasses, detritus that adds context to your work
the course is suitable for beginners and established artists who want to expand their practice. With support and mentoring you will discover the benefits of being curious, playful, and embracing accidental mistakes, of noticing and evaluating your outcomes to expand your understanding of various processes and identify what interests and resonates with you.
